Getting ghosted on a LinkedIn connection is one of the latest forms of rejection. Ouch. It’s happened to us all at some point. You connect with someone and then somehow it’s over and gone before you know it. How can you avoid getting ghosted on LinkedIn?

Ghosting
To define, ghosting is when someone suddenly stops communicating with another, and this is quite common with online networking. People are left wondering what went wrong and how could they have handled the situation better.

7 Reasons You May Get Ghosted
While there are many reasons that people get ghosted, here are few reasons why someone might abruptly stop communicating with you.

1. Too busy
The days, weeks, and years seem to pass like the speed of light. We are all overly busy and so it’s possible that the person you’ve been communicating with is just overwhelmed.

2. Not active
While you may be living the LinkedIn dream, the person you’ve networked with may not be quite as active on LinkedIn. When you don’t hear back promptly, don’t take it personally.

3. Just forgot
Sometimes people see a message but they never get around to writing back. They simply just forgot and you got ghosted.

4. To aggressive
Networking on LinkedIn is a beautiful thing until you look like a stalker. Don’t be overly aggressive by liking every activity and leaving comments on every update. This will get old quickly and possibly overwhelm your connection or seem insincere.

5. No effort
When you reached out to your connection, was it all about you? Or did you make the effort to learn about them? You have to make an effort; it’s not all about you.

6. Feeling used
If you ask for a favor right off the bat, then you risk your connection feeling used. Take the time to build a relationship first, rather than giving them the impression it’s all about what they can do for you.

7. Acting creepy
You will get ghosted if you give off a creepy vibe. If they don’t feel comfortable with you, then you’ll hear silence from the other end. Skip the compliments about their appearance or asking too many personal questions.

Making meaningful connections on LinkedIn is about building relationships. Be respectful and offer value to your connections and hopefully you won’t get ghosted quite so often.
